12-2-12 Classics

There are so many movies out there that people should just NOT watch. They are predictable, there's a major crisis, or the guy falls for the girl and it's all candies and rainbows. The soundtrack is the mainstream music that is featured on the radio that we hear over and over on the radio. I like some of the stuff that ends up on the radio, but after a while it all becomes wearing. What happened to those classic movies with actually good music? Yes you have to admit that the older movies tend to be more happy but really. They should be watched more often. On Saturday I watched Singin' In the Rain with Mattie and Dexter. I knew the majority of the songs already, but the dancing and the comedy just makes me smile and laugh. Who doesn't like Gene Kelly and Donald O'Connor? The dancing is absolutely amazing. Dexter had never seen the movie and he made a comment somewhere along the lines of "they are so happy!" Mattie and I replied a the same time, that it's because they are dancing, singing, and acting because it makes them truly happy. On top of that the people like Gene Kelly were genuinely good at all three things. Now, the actors are kicked out of the business if they can't do all of it. It's sad because they start out as mediocre singers, or actors, and then they dance or force the other skills and they go from bad to worse. Why can't we go back to the good ole days? So go forth and watch awesome old movies!

  1. MJ your comment made me remember that the people who first considered Fred Astair for the movies said, "Sings nicely and can dance a little." In any case they thought his singing was what would get him parts. How wrong they were! They also say that Ginger Rogers was better than Fred because she did it backwards and in high heels!!!
Glad you enjoyed the movie-again. It is clearly a classic. So many times I have tried to learn that rain dance by watching and re-watching the movie.

  2. I LOVE Donald O'Connor's dance with the dummy. What a classic! I could watch it a hundred times over and never tire of it. (Actually, I probably HAVE watched it a hundred times over!)
