Unexpected Developments 1/29/15

Looking for something fresh to read about? Check out my other blog, "Unexpected Developments"! I am now attending New College of Florida and am coming to the very end of my ISP (independent study project). Over the month of January I have been investigating the effects that household chemicals have on the black and white photo developing process. I was inspired by the work of Matthew Cetta and how the marriage of art and science can be oh so beautiful. If you want to see what I'm up to, check it out at: http://unxpectedevelopments.blogspot.com/

Why the relationship? A Question for Society. 4/27/14

Why is it that when a guy and a girl are together that people assume that they are in a relationship? I was at the Inman Park Festival today and my friend Myles had found this crazy cool light bar from a cop car but needed money to be loaned to him to get it. We then went to a booth with a bunch if cameras which Myles expressed interest in. I said something along the lines of "I'm not letting you buy anything else with my money" and the woman behind the table simply responded with, "ooooo looks like sometimes girlfriend won't let him buy anything else!" Now what made her think of that? I wasn't clinging to his arm, looking at him lovingly, or kissing him. What makes people take that leap from friends to in a relationship? Either way we got an awesome light bar from a cop car out of it and some hilarious reactions on the way to the car. :)

College... it's a real thing. 4/27/14

It also costs an arm and a leg... MANY arms and legs in fact. But after all it's all about the fit. It gets crazy when all of the schools that you are looking at brag about the exact same characteristics of a small liberal arts school that have a good environmental or marine biology program. They are all proud of having their teachers have a good relationship with their students and the community is small and tight knit. But then how do you choose from all of the schools that you have gotten into and what factors do you value more? Which cons are going to be deal breakers and which ones can you just deal with and maybe get around? How much money does it cost to go home. How far away do you want to be from home? Does a city or a town matter to you? Do you like the cold weather or not? And two of the biggest ones for me: 1. Do you want to study marine biology more or environmental science. 2. Can you pay for it? Hours and days and weeks of making lists and reading pamphlets and googling. Hours of plane flights and talking to admissions counselors on the phone and over Skype. But after all of that time and effort I landed on my college.

A place where I feel at home
Sprawling in a hammock
Wandering barefoot across the white sand
Squinting at the glistening waves
Listening to the sounds of the water
Reading in the Adirondack chairs
And drifting off to sleep with the sound of the crickets and frogs

That's right folks. The very first school that I ever visiting way back in 8th grade with my family down in Sarasota, FL.

I, Mei-Jing, will be attending New College of Florida and will be the class of 2018! :D

Yay for making a decision!
